Description:

Howdy pardners!

Here is this weeks run. It is one we have done before, but it suits are needs well, so I thought it was worth doing again.

Start:Shoreline
Time:6:00 am Up with the chickens!
Map link: www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=317975

Description: Start at Shoreline and head West on the GB, until you reach the Train Bridge that takes you to Orchard. Run to Orchard Rd and then head back to the GB. Once back to the GB, you will continue West on the GB, until you reach Main Street Overpass. Go under the Overpass, circle back to the bridge, crossover the bridge, to the South side of the River, near Joe's, and then continue West on the GB. Once you reach the Bridge at Veteran's, you will crossover to the North side, loop down and continue West on the GB, heading towards Willow Lane. Continue on the GB, until you reach Glenwood Bridge, go under, cross over to the North side, and then head down the path by the Pond. We should go approximately .8 to 1 mile down this path. Then STOP and head on back. You will want to cross back over at Glenwood, to the South side of the GB and take it back, staying on the North side of the river. You can then just head back to Shoreline Park.

Accommodations: There are bathrooms at Shoreline, Willow Lane, the Trailer Park near Glenwood, and a Porta Potty near the turning point. (Hopefully they are all open) I believe there is also water at the first 3 mentioned places.

So hitch up your wagons and let's get a rollin'

Description:

Hola fellow sloths!

Hope all of you that ran the Miner's Death March are faring well. We have another challenging run this week, but it is only 15...so we have that going for us.

It is a basic out and back, with a twist...we are leaving from Fort Boise and running to the top of Adalpe Summit and then back down. I have mapped it at 14.89, but the tool may be off a bit, so it should be close to 15. There really is no water on the course, so please bring plenty. There is a porta potty at approximately mile 3 or 4, so this means at 11 or 12 also.

Here is the site to see the map www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=313891. I will also post it on the Sloth site also.

Start time: 6:30?? I am thinking a little later as it is supposed to be cooler this weekend and the elevation should make it cooler? If we want a sooner start time, just let me know and I can revise it.

Have a great week!

Place:
United States, Boise, Grimes Creek
Description:

This Saturday we will do our 22-mile Salmon Marathon simulation run.  We will run from the old mining settlement at Pioneerville, and we will flee the gold rush as we head downstream along the mining tailings, forest, and the creek.  It's a gradual downhill that ends at Grimes Creek road and Highway 21.  We will initially drop our cars off at the bottom, and then shuttle up in two cars to Pioneerville.

Provisions:  We will drop a cooler off near the 11 mile point on the way up.  I will flag this so you won't miss it.  Be sure you can carry enough water for 11 miles.  There is a porta-potty at the Centerville Firehouse roughly 6 miles from the start.  It should be unlocked, but I won't promise.  There are plenty of trees.  There is a frost-free water faucet behind the firehouse, but DO NOT USE THIS FOR DRINKING WATER.  This is irrigation water.  Finally, there is a privy style porta-potty at the finish line where we meet and drop off the cars.  We will have a water cooler at the finish line.

Meet at Grimes Creek Rd. and Highway 21 at 6:15 am.  Don't be late or you'll miss the shuttle.  Grimes Creek Rd. is just before milepost 29.  This is about 7 miles past the Robie Creek turn-off.  There is a green highway sign marking the turnoff for New Centerville and Clear Creek, and the turn is just after you cross a small bridge.  Turn left on Grimes Creek Rd. and park ahead on the left side of the road toward the potty.  You can zoom out from the route map to get your bearings.  We will quickly organize and then shuttle.  The running will probably begin around 7:15.

We will have a picnic and some coffee at the finish.  Don't forget your lawn chairs.  You are basically camping - no running water, no electricity, cell phones are useless, etc.  Use Idaho City weather as your proxy for the temperature (weather.com).

I recommend that we carpool as much as possible to get to Grimes Creek.  Save some gas, and park less cars.

The route was drawn in reverse (from Hwy 21 to Pioneerville).  I'm not bored enough to re-draw it, so just remember you'll be running downstream.  Here is the route:  http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=302067

G\'Day all Sloths,

The route for this Saturday will be a simple one, but a fun and should be fast one.

From start head upstream, on the Northside of the GB, to approximately MILE MARKER 9.1 on the GB. Turnaround and head back downstream, until you reach Eckhart Rd. Then turn left towards Barber Park. Take the trail/GB back downstream to the 1st Orange Bridge. Crossover the bridge and finish running downstream, to finish back at Municipal 1.6.

This route has plenty of water stops and potty breaks, if needed.

Description:

TIME: 5:55AM

PLACE: Meet at Baggley Park on S Parkcenter Blvd (near Bown Crossing).

ROUTE: From the Park we will hop skip and jump to the Greenbelt by following River Run. Once on the Greenbelt, stay on the Parkcenter/BSU side until you get to the footbridge in Anne Morrison.  Cross and continue down river toward Glenwood. We will cross under the Glenwood Bridge, up onto Glenwood and to the other side of the River before continuing on for another mile or so. Turn around and head back in the same direction to Baggley Park.

Because of the long distance, I vote for Big City this week instead of my thought for the Dream Cafe.  Terry is right - we will have worked up an appetite after 20 miles!

***** For anyone who wants to do less miles, you are more than welcome to meet us part way out (meeting us at Anne Morrison or Shoreline would cut out about 4.5-5.0 miles for anyone interested).  We'll drop you back off at your cars as we head to Big City on Grove.******

Description:

Start at Shoreline. Run to Municipal Park.
Once you get through Municipal, Turn LEFT and run the path to Walnut (vs. right which would take you to the golf course).
Turn RIGHT on Walnut up to Warm Springs, cross and go LEFT up Warm Springs.
Run W.S. until you reach the cemetery at Ave C - take a RIGHT onto Avenue C which then angles a bit left into Avenue D.
Turn RIGHT onto Reserve and then LEFT onto Mountain Cove Rd to head up into the Military Reserves.
You are going to run the Cottonwood Creek Trail - a nice loop in the valley of the Reserves area: Head straight, run until you get to a fork in the trail where you either go Left up the hill or Right into a cottonwood tree grove.  Go Right and Stay Right. From there you'll just follow the trail at the base of the foothills. Towards the end there's a steep downhill jaunt - remember - take a hard right at the bottom of the steep part to loop back towards the start in the Reserves - or you may end up in the dog park :)

Now, for the easy part: Head back toward Warm Springs and Municipal Park the way you came (Reserve St-Ave. D-Ave. C-Warm Springs-Walnut-Municipal Park).  From Municipal - head straight to the Orange Bridge and run on the greenbelt through the nature trail to Barber Park.  Bathrooms and H2O at Barber.  Turn back and head back to Shoreline via the Orange Bridge and Julia Davis.

United States, Boise, ID, Municipal Park (Greenbelt)
Description:

Since there seem to be a few different desired distances, lets try this plan to maximize the amount of time running with others.  Pick your distance, and the run will be in segments in order to pick up more of the group along the way:

If you want to run 18 miles-  Meet at Municipal Park at 6:10am.  We will start with 4 miles in whichever direction we feel like, before we come back to the Park to meet the next group...

If you want to run 14 miles-  Meet at Municipal Park at 6:45am.  We will run west on the Greenbelt (3 out and 3 back) for 6 miles before we come back to the Park to meet the next group...

If you want to run 8 miles-  Meet at Municipal Park at 7:45am.  We will run east on the Greenbelt (4 out and 4 back) to get 8 miles.

If you want to run 0 miles but still wish to have breakfast with the Sloths-  Meet us at Big City on Grove St. at about 9:00/9:15ish and buy me some eggs and potatoes and coffee.  Thanks.

See you Saturday!
